Plan to leave an extra 15 minutes before you thought you were going to leave for the studio! Check for any traffic delays. You’ve just got to love Hampton Roads traffic and we won’t even talk about how backed up all those awesome tunnels can get! Again, plan to leave with plenty of time for all the traffic delays!
Try and keep baby awake for at least 1.5 hours before the session. The more you can keep baby awake before the session the better the session will go as baby will be ready to sleep and allow me to pose them.
Plan to feed baby a full feeding right before the bath. This feeding gets us started right away when you arrive for the session. This way baby will be all milk drunk and sleepy, and that is exactly what we are aiming for.
Give baby a BATH RIGHT BEFORE YOU LEAVE FOR THE STUDIO! I can not stress how important the bath is!! Will your baby cry? Probably so, and that is okay. We want them awake as much as possible before the session. Also, crying is good for the lungs so don’t worry if they fuss or cry some. We have found that baby’s that get a bath right before the session tend to be more relaxed and sleep better. Make sure to remove any lint between their fingers and toes!! This is also a perfect time to softy wash away excess skin dry skin patches, sheets and flakes.
Do not apply diaper rash creme, lotion or powder the morning of the session! Lotions will make the skin appear oily with the camera lights.
Please bring 2 bottles with a minimum of 4 oz per bottle for feedings during the Newborn session. (Only 1 bottle is needed for the So Cozy Wrapped Only session)
This is especially important for keeping baby calm during the posing. Babies often wake up throughout the posing. This is how awake babies sooth themselves in the early days. We will often times feed baby in a pose to get them to settle so that we disturb them as ltlle as possible.
PACIFIER: Do not have anything attached to it please! The pacifier is extremely helpful during the session to settle baby.
